Automotive FMCW Radar: DDM MIMO Processing

A hands-on workshop focused on the practical implementation and analysis of DDM MIMO processing for automotive FMCW radar.

The complete signal-processing chain is developed around real AWR2243 measurements, from raw ADC data through range, Doppler, transmitter separation, and angle processing to multi-dimensional radar visualization. Synchronized camera footage is used as a visual reference for interpreting and validating the recorded radar scenes.

What You'll Learn

Understand how Doppler Division Multiplexing enables simultaneous transmission from multiple antennas and how transmit channels are encoded in the Doppler domain.

DDM MIMO Fundamentals

Separate the multiplexed transmit channels, resolve the DDM encoding, and reconstruct the virtual antenna data required for spatial processing.

DDM MIMO Reconstruction

Process raw FMCW ADC data to generate range and velocity information and analyze the effect of DDM modulation in the Range–Doppler domain.

Range and Doppler Processing

Build the MIMO virtual array from the separated transmit and receive channels and estimate target direction.

Target Detection

Estimate target direction using the virtual antenna array, resolve angular information from detected targets, and generate angular representations of the radar scene.

DoA Estimation

Group detected radar points into target clusters using DBSCAN, separate spatially distinct objects, and prepare clustered detections for higher-level scene interpretation.
